Volkswalking

My Mom is an avid Volkswalker. I don't think she does it for the exercise as much as for the exposure to new things and places that she normally wouldn't see.

Volkswalking (or Volksmarching) is a world-wide activity with it's origins in Germany. The American Volkssport Association can be found here. With over 350 walking clubs across America you can likely find numerous organized walks to participate in. This is a fun way to get out and get moving.

A volksmarch is a non-competitive 6 mile (10 kilometer) walk. These walks are open to the public to come and enjoy. Trails are marked and/or mapped, with checkpoints and refreshments along the way.

Some of them offer stamps or pins that you can purchase as a souvenir of your walk. By the time my little brother was 10 I think he had about 75 pins from Volkswalking with my Mom. He kept them all on one very heavy vest!

So if you are looking for something new to shake up your walking or exercise routine, Volkswalking may be just the ticket!
